Part One: Initial Consultation
Tina and her partner found out about Carp’s Complete Exteriors from a simple flyer.
They had a lot of rotten siding on the back side of the house, and they were thinking of fixing that for over 2 years.
Their home needed a siding upgrade, and after researching for awhile, they reached the conclusion that James Hardie siding is the best option out there.
They’ve used contractors before and for them, attention to details was important.
Tina reached out to us in May and we scheduled a home-visit.
Some siding issues we've found during our consultation were...
Rotten siding
There was a lot of rot at the back of the house that was further damaging the house framing.
Looked dated
The dated beige color was boring and Tina wanted their house to have a more modern, WOW factor.
Poor waterproofing
The old weather barrier was damaged and torn apart in multiple spots, so their home was not fully protected.
Other issues
Around the house there were several other issues under the deck, around windows, doors, etc.
Part Two: The Design And Planning

Back of the house
This was a fairly complex design. There were a lot of windows, a bay and bow window, a garage, and other features that made this siding project more a little bit more challenging, which we loved.
Front and side of the house
The front side of the house was easier to navigate because of the brick accent walls. What was different here were two new wood columns (posts) our client wanted us to install in front of the door to match the new cedar soffit.

Part Three: The Time Schedule

Tina came to us in the middle of May, and the homeowners received their siding proposal on May 29th.
Jun-Jul
The homeowners agreed to move forward with a design, but they didn’t want to start just yet. In June and July we did most of the planning and designs.
Tina and her partner also applied for financing, so they also had to wait to be approved.
Aug-Sept
Our clients got approved for financing in August, and then we ordered all the materials and signed the contract. We were now waiting for all deliveries.
Oct 14th
Demolition started. We had to remove the old siding and weather barrier.
We were done with installing the new water barrier. We received some feedback from Tina so we stepped up to make things right.
We did a site walkthrough and fixed a couple errors. We were starting to work on the wall facing north. Job was 50% done.
Job was done. We cleaned up after ourselves and call the dumpster company to pick it up.

This beautiful shingle from James Hardie is one of the best materials out there to mimic the beauty and simplicity of the asphalt shingles. We used around 70 pieces as a beautiful accent for the siding on the garage addition.
James Hardie HZ5 HardiePlank Eased Edge Lap Siding - 8.25" - Mountain Sage
We used around 370 pieces of this James Hardie planks for the siding on the entire house. They’re beautiful, low-maintenance, and come with a great warranty. In total, the shingles and the planks added up to just south of $15,000.
