1. Doors and Windows

For instant curb appeal, adding new windows and doors can make a big statement. New screen doors, sliding doors or entry doors will be a welcome sight every time you come home or greet guests. Simply repainting your front door in a bright, friendly color can make everything else pop. New windows offer protection and energy efficiency to your home, but they don’t have to be the same old neutral. There are many colored window frames available, and a growing, home-design trend is brightly colored window frames in mint green, rust red or burnt orange, among others. Colored window frames are also an excellent way to add a modern statement to your home’s exterior.

2. Siding and Trim

James Hardie Siding makes it easy to find the right hues for your home. When you opt for James Hardie's ColorPlus® Technology, your siding comes pre-finished in an artful array of durable, fade-resistant colors sure to enhance the beauty of your home. Siding your home with James Hardie products helps your home’s exterior stand up to the elements while blending traditional and modern charm. Design Tips for Choosing James Hardie Siding Colors

Think about the hues you love, the mood you want to convey, and the setting in which you live. Here are some recommendations from the James Hardie color experts on choosing the right siding colors for your home:

  • Reds (especially gray-toned reds) are best suited for traditional houses, in rural towns and older cities. Browns, warm reds and yellows in subtle tones are great for trims on a craftsman, adobe, or rustic ranch.
  • Gray-blue shades on shingled Cape Cod homes are always a classic. However, gray-blue looks great on any home, whether it's used as the main color or as an accent.
  • Greens work in neighborhoods that have lots of old, leafy trees. Yellows are best for more casual houses, such as bungalows and cottages, and on colonial homes with dark shutters
  • Light colors like creams and whites work great on houses with a colonial inspiration, and make cottages or smaller homes look sweet and charming. White is always lovely for trim.
  • Dark colors such as grays, blues and greens can feel modern, and work well in urban areas where there’s a mix of old and new architecture. Dark colors can also look great in an old neighborhood where a dark house won't stick out like a sore thumb.
  • Neutral colors like tans, light grays and off-whites are usually a safe color choice, but also add sophistication. Play with textures and use different accent colors for trim to add more interest.

3. Gutters

In the case of your gutters, this design choice will be determined by what you don’t want to see: damage or improper installation. Your gutter systems should match your home’s aesthetic and not stand out. When properly installed, your gutter system will prevent water and storm damage from ruining the rest of the exterior. Carp’s specializes in Leafree Gutter Protection Systems that protect your home from the elements--and keep your siding, windows and roof looking great for years to come.
